CAMP develops and advocates for policy reforms to all levels of government in support of making Canada’s economy more fair, free, and democratic.

CAMP’s most important role is translating research and analysis into concrete policy change for the benefit of Canadians. Canada’s competition laws spent decades behind the rest of the world. This meant mergers went unchallenged, monopolies arose in traditional and emerging markets, and enforcers did not have the tools to meaningfully constrain corporate power. CAMP works to change that by developing policy grounded in evidence and motivated by the desire for a more fair, free, and democratic economy.

This means engaging directly with parliamentarians, committees, and government consultations to push for stronger, more effective competition policy in Canada. CAMP has provided submissions and testimony on landmark legislation including amendments to the Competition Act in 2023 and 2024. By bringing our competition policy expertise and public interest perspective to the table CAMP is an active participant in shaping the rules that govern Canada’s economy.

The goal of CAMP’s policy development work is durable, structural change to Canada’s economy away from monopoly power. Each submission, recommendation, and policy paper is part of our effort to build the intellectual and policy foundation for a Canadian economy where competition is promoted, concentration is checked, and economic power is more widely shared.
