CAMP represents the public interest in regulatory proceedings across sectors of the Canadian economy, pushing for competition and consumer protection in sectors including:
- Telecommunications
- Transportation
- Banking
CAMP intervenes in public regulatory proceedings to ensure that the interests of everyday Canadians are represented where corporate power is most concentrated. While much of Canada’s competition debate happens in Parliament or in the courts, many of the decisions that shape Canadians’ daily lives, whether its the price of internet access, fair compensation for travel delays, or the rules governing digital platforms, are made by Canadian regulators. CAMP engages in these processes, providing analysis and perspective that might otherwise be crowded out by corporate lobbyists.
CAMP’s consumer protection work is grounded in a simple observation: monopoly power directly harms Canadians and often leaves people with little recourse. In markets like telecommunications, where a small number of dominant players control access to essential services, regulatory oversight is one of the few meaningful checks on corporate behaviour. CAMP monitors these markets closely, tracks regulatory developments, and intervenes when the rules risk being shaped by the very companies they’re meant to constrain.
Through submissions, research, and public commentary, CAMP works to ensure that regulatory bodies in Canada genuinely serve the public interest. This includes advocating for regulations the open up economic bottlenecks, pushing back against pricing practices that harm consumers, and scrutinizing mergers and conduct that consolidate control over critical infrastructure.
CAMP’s regulatory and consumer protection work aims to create a connected ecosystem of laws, enforcement, and oversight that together limit the reach of monopoly power. Regulatory intervention is one of the most direct ways to translate research and policy ideas into tangible outcomes for Canadians.
